Losing weight fast? Why the plan eases off on purpose
August 24, 2026
Early on a GLP-1, the scale can move fast - sometimes faster than is good for you. Past roughly 1% of body weight per week (on a two-week average), the share of muscle in what you're losing climbs.
Most programs ignore this. Yours watches it - because keeping muscle is the entire point of training on these medications.
What the guardrail does
When your two-week average loss runs faster than about 1% a week, the program stops adding weight to your lifts until the rate slows, and pushes the protein target harder. You keep training - the habit and the signal stay alive - but the plan stops asking more of a body that's already in a steep deficit.
When the rate settles back into the safer zone, progression resumes automatically. You never have to make the call yourself.
Fast loss isn't a badge
It's tempting to read a fast-dropping scale as winning. But the goal was never just a smaller number - it's a smaller number with the muscle to keep it. Slow enough to keep your strength is fast enough.
The plan bends around the medication so the streak - and the muscle - survives it.
